Canadian border guards run at first signs of danger

You have to wonder how Canadians must feel knowing that their border guards have the right and do walk off the job protecting the countries borders at any sign of danger. It gives the distinct impression that a border guard in Canada is nothing more then a toll booth operator.

About 60 guards with the Canada Border Services Agency left their posts at four crossings in the Lower Mainland because of what they claimed to be a threat to their personal security.

An official with the Canada Border Services Agency said the action by the guards occurred after Homeland Security officials in the U.S. told the RCMP that a suspected killer from California, who should be considered armed and dangerous, might try to cross the Canadian border.

In all fairness though Canada evidently does not allow their border guards to carry weapons so basically Canada depends on the U.S. to protect them. It's probably for the best since it looks like it takes 10 years to train Canadians how to safely use firearms.
The Conservative government has promised a 10-year program to arm the guards.

Pluto voted off the solar system

This is an OUTRAGE. How can a planet be voted out once it has already been allowed into the club. Not only that but they pick on the smallest planet, a planet which is in no position to defend itself. Earth isn't all that big compared to many of the planets but I don't see them trying to vote out the Earth. Sounds like a bit of home grown favoritism to me.

Pluto was stripped of its status as a planet on Thursday when astronomers from around the world redefined it as a "dwarf planet," leaving just eight major planets in the solar system.
How will Pluto ever recover from this blow to it's self esteem. Surely if Rhode Island and Hawaii can be states then Pluto can be a planet.

Art fatalities

It's not often you get a headline about death due to art but when it happens we must all be reminded of how dangerious and deadly art can be.

Two people have been killed and 13 injured after a giant, inflatable sculpture blew free from its moorings. Many were inside the artwork, which consists of connected rooms, when it lifted 30ft into the air at Riverside Park, Chester-le-Street, County Durham.
But definition, I would think something defined as "inflatable art" is not something necessarily built to be climbed into.

Viagra drives rise in senior STD's

I never would have pictured senior communities as dens of rampant sexual promiscuity but times change I guess. Seems everyone wants in on sexual transmitted diseases these days.

Doctors said sexually transmitted diseases among senior citizens are running rampant at a popular Central Florida retirement community, according to a Local 6 News report.

A gynecologist at The Villages community near Orlando, Fla., said she treats more cases of herpes and the human papilloma virus in the retirement community than she did in the city of Miami.

"Yeah, they are very shocked (to hear the diagnosis)," gynecologist Dr. Colleen McQuade said. "I had a patient in her 80s."

I just can’t get over picturing a senior community where people run around humping each other indiscriminately like a bunch of dogs in heat, much less the need for a sex education workshop consisting of 80 years olds.

George Washington (WASPM)

It has become very important in the eyes of many that everyone has a role model that reflects their personal race, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, religion, gender and various possible physical handicaps. So much so that now California wants to make sure textbooks reflect the sexual orientation of gays, lesbians, transgender and make sure their contributions are included.

After a sometimes emotional debate centering on discrimination and sexual orientation, a Senate committee approved a bill Wednesday that would require that the contributions of gays and lesbians be included in textbooks.

Supporters argued that all students should be made aware of the role that gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people have made, but state curriculum has no such requirement.

Opponents countered that discussion of sexual orientation should occur at home and not be mandated in schools.

Not requiring that gays be included in instructional materials creates the "enforced invisibility that so many minority groups have gone through in terms of their contributions to California history," Sen. Sheila Kuehl, D-Santa Monica, told the Senate Education Committee in support of her bill.

Does this mean we now need footnotes denoting a person’s ethnic, sexual and religious statistics, Maybe an index with a listing of individuals and potential categories with checks and boxes to denote the classification? We could possibly create a key code to be shown prominently after persons name to insure the information was easy to find as I did in the title of this post. The code as shown decodes as White Anglo Straight Protestant Male. Granted this is a rudimentary code and would need much expansion to insure no one felt left out.

Just think how many suicides and deaths could be prevented by making this one change. It seems to be an accepted fact that pride in American achievements is not enough to keep people alive. It is vital to self esteem and mental health to know that someone just like you in the most unimportant of ways managed to be a productive member of society before life is worth living.

Star Trek cloaking device may be possible

Any Star Trek fan knew cell phones and DVDs were just around the corner. We saw the beauty of such technological marvels well before they became commodities. Now we are told cloaking devices may be possible.

The cloaking devices that are used to render spacecraft invisible in Star Trek might just work in reality, two mathematicians have claimed.
They have outlined their concept in a research paper published in one of the UK Royal Society's scientific journals.

Nicolae Nicorovici and Graeme Milton propose that placing certain objects close to a material called a superlens could make them appear to vanish.

I still want my phaser. I am getting tired of carrying out the trash and picking up dog poop.

What would Mohammed do?

While reading the book "Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam" I got to thinking, none of the critics of religion ever use this sarcastic method to try and turn an argument against Muslims like they do Christians. Could this be because Jesus spread peace and Mohammed spread war?

From now on I demand that any Islamic apologist atheist trying to turn my faith on me demand "What would Mohammed do?" I am just itching to say tax you, enslave you, abuse you or chop off your head.

The age of profanity

I have been known to use crap, shit, damn and screwed up on occasion but I can honestly say it gets no worse then that, but I too have noticed the increasing coarseness of conversation and debate.

Nearly three-quarters of Americans questioned last week — 74 percent — said they encounter profanity in public frequently or occasionally, according to an Associated Press-Ipsos poll. Two-thirds said they think people swear more than they did 20 years ago. And as for, well, the gold standard of foul words, a healthy 64 percent said they use the F-word — ranging from several times a day (8 percent) to a few times a year (15 percent).
People are moving away from using language to inform and enlighten and instead are using it as a weapon to abuse.

I have always considered the use of vulgar language the first sign of a closed mind and a weak argument. I also think it is no small coincidence that its use has become prolific on the left. Just visit any left wing web site or listen to some left wing wacko when the cameras are off. Any time they think the average American is not listening the discourse becomes a long string of profanity laced tirades.

That’s not to say conservatives don't use vulgar language, they do on occasion. But in general conservatives look at profanity as a weakness where the left looks at it as a tool. The top web sites on the right go to great lengths to keep content family friendly many times going so far as shutting down comments to prevent left wing trolls from turning their sites into the sewers that left wing web sites have become.

How long before the progressive mindset on the left elects a president that drops F-bombs during the state of the union and no one blinks an eye? It is not that unthinkable.

Dirty room shame goes both ways

This is so tempting. My son's college apartment makes me think of a testing lab for biological weapons of mass destruction.

AN EXASPERATED father has discovered, at his expense, that cyberspace is not the ideal arena for family feuds.

Two weeks ago Steve Williams became so fed up with his daughter's messy bedroom that he built a website featuring pictures of his slothful offspring's lair in an attempt to shame her into action.

Next time I visit I am taking my camera. Stay tuned to be disgusted.

The beauty is my son lacks the motivation gene and would never get around to retaliating. Or so his T-shirt says.

Kite flying fatalities

I have heard of kite fighting and actually played at it as a kid. But kite flying fatalities where peoples throats are cut is new.

Already it's banned for all but 15 days of the year but a provincial minister warned kite-flyers this week that any who cause injury or death with string made from metal or coated with glass could be tried under anti-terrorism laws.
Every year, Pakistani media report dozens of deaths and injuries caused by kite flying, mainly of children and motorcyclists whose throats are sometimes cut by metal or glass-coated string.
Leave it to the middle east to find a way to turn a harmless pastime into a way to kill and maim.

Attempted murder by Visine

Murder by eye drops never struck me as a serious danger until now.

As murder attempts go, it wasn't the most clear-eyed plot.
Police say Morning Star Vaber, 24, put Visine drops in a co-worker's tea in an attempt to kill her.
But a sharp-eyed witness foiled the plan: A fellow worker who reportedly saw Vaber's actions poured out the tea before the woman could drink it, police said.
Vaber, a Homestead resident, was arrested Wednesday by the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, more than a month after the alleged poisoning attempt at the real-estate
I had no idea this stuff was so dangerious.

Sex change to avoid caning.

Sometimes you just never know when something will have unexpected benefits.

A Thai prostitute escaped caning for drug dealing in Singapore after a doctor established that the accused, who was identified in a passport as a man, had undergone a sex change, the Straits Times reported on Friday.

Singapore's drug laws, which include the death penalty for possession of certain amounts of drugs, provide for different punishments for males and females.

While male offenders can be punished with up to 15 strokes of the rattan cane for drug-related offences, female offenders are exempt from caning.

All I want for Christmas is a trash dumpster

Teacher tells 7-8 year olds Santa is dead

I always marvel at people that cannot abide childhood fantasies. There insist that children be brought up immersed in the cold hard facts of reality.

“The poem has great literary value, but it goes against my conscience to teach something which I know to be false to children, who are impressionable,” said Farrisi, 43, of Myerstown. “It’s a story. I taught it as a story. There’s no real person called Santa Claus living at the North Pole.”

Farrisi doesn’t believe in Santa Claus, and she doesn’t think anyone else should, either. She made her feelings clear to the classroom full of 6- and 7-year-olds, some of whom went home crying.

I am so glad she does not work suicide hotlines during the Christmas Holidays.

Barbie used as torture training tool

One more indication that western culture is evil.

Barbie, beware. The iconic plastic doll is often mutilated at the hands of young girls, according to research published Monday by British academics.

"The girls we spoke to see Barbie torture as a legitimate play activity, and see the torture as a 'cool' activity," said Agnes Nairn, one of the University of Bath researchers. "The types of mutilation are varied and creative, and range from removing the hair to decapitation, burning, breaking and even microwaving."

"The meaning of 'Barbie' went beyond an expressed antipathy; actual physical violence and torture towards the doll was repeatedly reported, quite gleefully, across age, school and gender," she said.
Abu Grab and Gitmo were just an adult application of childhoold training.

Bush Policies on Climate Cause Shift in Magnetic Poles

Have you ever wondered, in this current political environment where George Bush get blamed for everything, if it would be possible to sell the idea that Bush is responsible for the shift in the magnetic poles?

Despite accelerated movement over the past century, the possibility that Earth's fading magnetic field will collapse or that the magnetic poles will flip is remote. But the shift could mean that Alaska may no longer be able to see the high-altitude shimmering displays of colorful lights called the aurora borealis, or northern lights.
GOP policies could be blamed for loosing the aurora borealis and turning the magnetic north pole over to the Russians. The questions could be as follows:

1. How do you feel about the Bush administrations failure to prevent the drift of the magnetic north pole which has accelerated recently?

2. Do you think the government should be doing more to prevent this drift?

3. Should the Bush administration be held accountable if the magnetic north pole falls into Russian hands?

4. Would you feel more or less likely to vote Republicans should Alaska loose the aurora borealis while the Bush administration sits by and does nothing?

I am willing to bet these questions could be asked and 50% of Democrats would go ballistic over the inaction of the Bush administration.

Genius in Parenting

I wish I had thought of this as my kids were growing up.

Tasha Henderson got tired of her 14-year-old daughter's poor grades, her chronic lateness to class and her talking back to her teachers, so she decided to teach the girl a lesson.

She made Coretha stand at a busy Oklahoma City intersection Nov. 4 with a cardboard sign that read: "I don't do my homework and I act up in school, so my parents are preparing me for my future. Will work for food."

I think the response from this one bleeding heart child's pet of a parent pretty much sums up liberal parenting failure.
"The trick is to catch them being good," he said. "It sounds like this mother has not had a chance to catch her child being good or is so upset over seeing her be bad, that's where the focus is."
You shouldn't have to "catch" your kids being good. If "being good" is not standard behavior your cause as a parent is lost already.

I will never forget the day my kids were misbehaving on the drive home from somewhere so we pulled over and put them out of the car one block from the house and made them walk the rest of the way. The way they were howling you would have thought we had abandoned them in a third world country.

Naturally we kept an eye on them to make sure they were safe.

Michael Jackson Uses Ladies Room

Was this a Freudian slip or honest mistake?

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates - Michael Jackson has stirred a small controversy in the United Arab Emirates by entering the ladies room in a shopping mall.

The pop star's publicist said Jackson, who arrived in Dubai this week as the guest of a champion rally driver, did not understand the Arabic sign on the door and left the bathroom as soon as he realized his mistake.
But local newspapers reported that the 47-year-old performer did not quickly leave the bathroom and was spotted applying makeup before leaving.
Sounds like he went to the right place to me.

Just shows you're never too famous to make this mistake.

While I realize that many of the current pajama bottoms are rather modest and trying to institute an official ban would really be impossible the potential for this to get out of hand is HUGE. "Gay Cowboy" - Mental Images and the Damage they Can Do

There are certain mental images in life that cannot be overcome. Try to imagine Bob Denver (Gilligan) playing the Terminator. Try to picture Goldie Hawn playing a Harvard educated scientist. They just don’t work.

Now think about the reverse, those times when someone steps out of their image and takes a role that creates an image reversal or some sort of expose forces an uncomfortable reality out into the open, a change that transforms the perception of all past and future projects. For example, try watching Pillow Talk now that it is common knowledge that Rock Hudson was gay and died from Aids. The chemistry between him and Doris day is completely gone now.

Now imagine Heath Ledger of "The Patriot" and "Knight's Tale" playing a gay cowboy in "Broken Back Mountain".

The film has been called "groundbreaking" by homosexual activists for the amount of "gay" sex that is shown on screen.
No only that but violent gay sex.
"[Ledger] grabs me and he slams me up against the wall and kisses me, and then I grab him and I slam him up against the wall and I kiss him," he said recently, adding the love scenes were the most violent he'd ever done.

"We were doing take after take after take. I got the sh-- beat out of me. ... We had other scenes where we fought each other and I wasn't hurting as badly as I did after that one."

"As well as that, every man goes through a period of thinking they're attracted to another guy," Gyllenhaal added.
Uhhh, no.

My guess is the movie will have a small obscure showing almost exclusively in the Gay community. This particular award is likely a result of its "ground breaking" content rather then it's cinematic brilliance. Its audience demographic is pretty small. Is having two supposedly heterosexual guys (with Hollywood you never really know) playing homosexuals even believable? Why would the gay community praise a move about gays that excludes gays from the lead roles? Imagine "Ray" done with a white playing Ray. I guess it could be the "Lesbian effect". Most males I know have no problem watching two heterosexual females playing lesbians.

It will be interesting to see if it has any impact on Heath Ledger's future roles. He was never what I would call a manly man in his roles but one thing is for sure. I will never be able to watch his movies again without thinking that he was in gay porn.

Voyager Damages Saturns Rings

It is being reported that Saturn’s rings have changed since Voyager passed by Saturn in 1981. This can only mean one thing in our modern "blame man for destroying the world" mentality we have today. Man has now destroyed Saturn too.

Among the most surprising findings is that parts of Saturn's innermost ring — the D ring — have grown dimmer since the Voyager spacecraft flew by the planet in 1981, and a piece of the D ring has moved 125 miles inward toward Saturn.
Also there is speculation Bush and Rove may be responsible.

The World Will be Ruled by Supermice

Recent breakthroughs in scientific research will soon insure that mice will rule the world. I have a hard enough time keeping these rodents out of my house an scientist seem determined to make mice that can survive in spite of my best efforts to eradicate them.

First they decide to make them smarter.

Scientists have figured out how to make mice smarter. They have located a gene that regulates the brain's ability for seeing patterns in events and remembering cause-and-effect relationships for longer periods of time.
It is hard enough trying to kill a mouse without having mice that are smarter then I am. Next thing you know I will walk into my house and find them watching TV, drinking all my beer and beating me at Scrabble.

But that wasn't enough. Next they had to make them live longer.

U.S. scientists have produced genetically modified mice that live 20 per cent longer than normal and may have possibly discovered an approach to extending the human lifespan.
You want a breakthrough. Develop a mouse that is born dead. This kind of research is headed in exactly the wrong direction. Next thing you know they will be extending the life spans of mosquitoes.

At least up to this point you could still rely on traps and other methods of mutilation to kill mice, well not anymore.

SCIENTISTS have created a “miracle mouse” that can regenerate amputated limbs or badly damaged organs, making it able to recover from injuries that would kill or permanently disable normal animals.
Now a mouse caught in a trap could gnaw off his leg or tail, run away and it would grow back. Or, if suffering internal damage could crawl away and grow back damaged organs. Now I have visions from our worst horror stories about mice that keep coming back from the seeming dead over and over again.

What the hell are these guys thinking. Smarter, longer living mice that regenerate lost limbs and organs. We will all be killed or enslaved by the coming supermice. Prepare for our fate.

World Makes Stand Against Chinese Bras

Nations all over the globe are banning or planning to ban the import of Chinese bras.

Washington announced new limits on imports of Chinese bras...
Millions of goods, including ... bras, are currently stranded at European ports after China breached annual quota levels.
Chinese manufacturers have warned that the dispute is causing significant disruption and if further restrictions are imposed, they might start looking to other markets.
I suspect the real reason for the bra ban is size. Everyone who has ever seen pictures of Chinese women knows they appear to be flat chested. This can only mean one thing. In an effort to reduce unrest in China they are trying to export bra's that make American and European women look flat chested too. The deflation of American womens bust sizes cannot be allowed.

So What are Men Allowed to be Better at then Women?

In our PC world of men and women being equal except when women are better, is there anything positive that men are allowed to be better at without raising the accusations of sexism? We get to hear about how much more compassionate and nurturing women are. Women are more likely to reach for consensus. Women are less likely to get involved in wars, and lastly the word of a grieving mother is not to be questioned.

Now we get a study that finds that men may be more intelligent then women covered in an article entitled "Is this a clever thing to say about women's IQ?". The title is apt because recently Harvard President Lawrence H. Summers asked why men seemed to excel in science over women, the very question that this study addresses. It led to the serial groveling of President Summers and a $50 million dollar slush fund targeted at women to try and fix the "problem" that everyone says does not exist.

What is even more interesting is the inclusion of an apologetic tone by those conducting the study.

Dr Irwing, a senior lecturer in organisational psychology at Manchester University, said that he was uncomfortable with the findings. But he added that the evidence was clear despite the insistence of many academics that there were “no meaningful sex differences” in levels of intelligence.

“For personal reasons I would like to believe that men and women are equal, and broadly that’s true. But over a period of time the evidence in favour of biological factors has become stronger and stronger,” he said.

“I have been dragged in a direction that I don’t particularly like, but it would be sensible if the debate was based on what we pretty much know to be the case.”

I am not going to pretend that I am more intelligent then most women much less all women. I have severe reservations about whether I am smarter then our family dog at times, but if we are to understand and address issues we are trying to correct shouldn't we at least be able to admit they exist? Will this now end in another apology followed by a showering of funds to correct a problem the PC police say does not exist?

Personally I think men are only more intelligent then women when women are not around. My guess is the study was done in the absence of women. It would definately explain the male groveling they are doing now. I guarantee you place a young attractive woman in the room during testing and the I.Q. of the men would drop 10 points. Average that out and then women are equal to men. Maybe that should be the final compromise position.

The Handle of Faith With An Escape Clause

This is more a post to Rick Moran over at Right Wing Nuthouse. Who has become one of my favorite sites.

But let me whine for a moment; I’m not a journalist. I don’t pretend to be one nor do have any desire to imitate one. Will there be room for a 51 year old opinionated fat man who sees himself in a silly, heroic sort of way as a polemicist, a rabble rouser, someone who 200 years ago would have been posting broadsides on buildings facing the town square? Where does that leave me? How do I participate in this brave new world if I don’t want to climb on board this new media bandwagon?
Does it really matter? My situation is a bit different though. I lack the patience or skill (generally a "D" student in English and writing classes) to be a writer like you. I must say I truly envy your ability to break an issue into small parts and analyze them in such an entertaining way. When I write an entry that approaches two hours in the creation it makes me frustrated and I start looking for a way out. I guess my feelings about writing have not changed much since 6th grade. But still I am compelled by my interest in issues of the day to participate. This leaves me with the occasional long post (like this one) surrounded with things I find interesting and funny.

For me the medium doesn't matter. I started this only with the hopes of communicating more frequently with family and friends, all 20-30 of them. I have several relatives whom I get together with on holidays to discuss the issues of the day but I was never happy with that limited time. Now with my kids off to college (I am working on becoming a 51 year old fat man too) it gives me a forum to speak to them as well even though they are far from home. If the medium changes I can always go back to those holiday visits or the phone to talk to those I really want to communicate with. I do wish they would comment more often though. One way conversations are not nearly as much fun. I know they read this stuff, smile, shake their heads and save it up to make fun of me later. If I am going to be laughed at they should at least spread it out over time rather then do it all at once when we get together next Christmas.

That said I do watch my traffic stats. They provide huge amounts of amusement. Specifically, I should get 1000+ unique hits this month. Hard to imagine there are 970 individual bots out there pinging my site. My third highest number of hits are from Saudi Arabia. It makes me wonder if I will be visited by terrorists soon and where in the heck is Senegal anyway.

I don't know if this will help any others on the subject of where do we go from here but I guess in summary (this post is approaching two hours so it's time to run for my life) just keep it fun and it won't really matter. When I started this I told friends that if nothing else this would represent a kind of public diary where I could mull over my own thoughts to reinforce my own ideas and opinions.

Police Confront Galactic Stormtroopers

Local police report halting the advance of an incursion by intergalactic radicals.

Yup, the good burghers of Janesville can tonight sleep sounder in their beds after locals alerted officers to a possible armed robbery at the Ramada Inn. The suspected armed perp was kitted out in full stormtrooper uniform and, as Sergeant Kay Nikolaus of the Janesville Police Department put it: "Apparently some people who saw him felt there was a threat."
May the force be with the Janesville police department.

School Officials Not Sure What Caused 65 Pregnancies

SEX CAUSES PREGNACY!! Just doing my part as a source of vital information.

There are 490 female students at Timken High School, and 65 are pregnant, according to a recent report in the Canton Repository.
School officials are not sure they what has caused so many pregnancies, but in response to them, the school is launching a three-prong educational program to address pregnancy, prevention and parenting.
I think we can safely say abstinence was not taught. I wonder if male students from neighboring schools are transferring in droves to this school now?

School mascot? You guessed it . . Trojan.

Pee in Your Battery

First we had pee in your food. Now we find it can be used for batteries.

Physicists in Singapore have succeeded in creating the first paper battery that generates electricity from urine. This new battery will be the perfect power source for cheap, disposable healthcare test-kits for diseases such as diabetes. This research is published today in the Institute of Physics’ Journal of Micromechanics and Microengineering.
Please don't tell me this is going to be used in future hybrid cars. On the up side it will eliminate bathroom breaks. On the down side we may have to legalize drinking beer while driving to make it practical. I shudder the think what the his/hers seatbelt/extraction harness is going to look like.

Pee in Your Food Before Cooking

I hope this is not an effort to increase recruitment.

Food scientists working for the US military have developed a dried food ration that troops can hydrate by adding the filthiest of muddy swamp water or even peeing on it.

The ration comes in a pouch containing a filter that removes 99.9 per cent of bacteria and most toxic chemicals from the water used to rehydrate it, according to the Combat Feeding Directorate, part of the US Army Soldier Systems Center in Natick, Massachusetts. This is the same organization that created the "indestructible sandwich" that will stay fresh for three years (New Scientist print edition, 10 April 2002).

Though this is bound to be a HUGE success on campouts with the kiddies.

I Would Likely Have to Pay Someone to Take My Kids

These kids should probably consider themselves lucky.

Looking for a little extra spending money, two college-bound teenagers decided to sell a week of their time to the highest bidder on the Internet auction site eBay.

The teens hoped for fortune and adventure, but got neither. When the auction closed Monday, the teens learned the winning bidder — a St. Joseph resident — had offered a mere $246.50 for their services.

I wonder if my kids will notice I posted this.

50 Hours of Video Games Kills Korean Man

Being someone that is a huge fan of online games I have only one thing to say. What a wimp.

A South Korean man who played computer games for 50 hours almost non-stop died of heart failure minutes after finishing his mammoth session in an Internet cafe, authorities said on Tuesday.
I would give my record but it's too embarrassingly long to tell.

Harry Potter Gets Thumbs Up From Gitmo Terrorists

There may be hope for these guys yet.

Harry Potter's worldwide popularity is so broad-based that it has become favorite reading for Islamic terror suspects at the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay.
"We've got a few who are kind of hooked on it. A couple have asked if they can see the movie," said Lori, a civilian contractor who asked that her last name not be publicized.
Gitmo has a staff of 3 librarians with a collection of 800 books. Yep, sounds like a torture facility to me.

We All Live In An Ugly Submarine

I am very glad the crew was all rescued safely but I must admit I have been unable to stop humming "We all live in an ugly submarine" sung to "Yellow Submarine" since I first saw this pic. Thank the lord everything turned out OK so I could post this and get it out of my system.
uglysubmarine.jpg
Rumor is the crew refused to completely surface until everyone turned around and they had disembarked. None of the crew wanted to be caught coming out of a sub that was painted to look like the hat from the Dr. Seuss book "Cat in the Hat".

The resemblance is uncanny.

Thanks Wizbang for the pic.

I Knew It Wasnt My Fault

Anyone who knows me will attest that my hearing is very poor. But the women in my family will tell you I must be stone deaf. They constantly tell me I am not listening. Depending on your perspective it could be considered a curse (theirs) or a blessing (mine). But at least now I have an excuse.

Men who are accused of never listening by women now have an excuse.

Scientists have found that women`s voices are more difficult for men to listen to than men`s.

I always knew it wasn't my fault.

Nerd Develops Android Girlfriend

I can think of only four reasons to pursue this kind of technology. Replacing human laborers, do something because you can, replace human tension in relationships and entertainment.

Japanese scientists have unveiled the most human-looking robot yet devised - a "female" android called Repliee Q1.

Am I the only one that thinks this kind of research is mostly about women that don't nag and high tech sex toys? Anyone who has seen Stepford Wives and Westworld knows what I mean.

New Pope Opposes Harry Potter

That’s it. The new pope must go.

Pope Opposes Harry Potter Novels - Signed Letters from Cardinal Ratzinger Now Online
All kidding aside this is not uncommon. The occult underpinnings of novels such as Harry Potter have always made religious leaders uncomfortable. In many cases these have become gateways into the occult or and even suicide as we have seen recently. While this may be true there are many other things in life that present an equal threat to a person’s well being such as drugs, alcohol, porn and fornication.

To battle these problems many churches also institutionalize various rules and customs that some see as petty and trivial. For example, us Baptists discourage (I say discourage because these rules are routinely ignored by rank and file Baptists) all consumption of alcohol and dancing. This leads to jokes like "Why do you always take two Baptists with you fishing?" Answer, "If you take one he will drink all your beer."

That said I think I will drink a beer while I read Harry Potter.

Betting on death in Harry Potter book?

In keeping with my Harry Potter obsession I ran across this little tidbit. It seems people will bet on anything.

The sixth and newest Harry Potter adventure has sparked massive interest since author J.K. Rowling revealed a major character will be killed in the book.
Interest that has led to betting on who is likely to die. Possible spoiler in extended.
Harry Potter.jpeg

With a flood of bets in late May that it was Hogwarts' head teacher, Professor Dumbledore, who would die, many bookmakers suspended betting, suspecting that information had been leaked.
Dumbledore destined to die?

World's longest married couple - 80 years

In our age of high divorce rates, this is of some important note.

The marriage is a success, she said, because they still work hard at it and they never go to bed on a quarrel. His answer is slightly more simple - it is down to two words: "Yes, dear."
True wisdom.

When the ice cream man attacks

A Good Humor man was served 18 months' probation Tuesday for losing his cool with a foul-mouthed teenager. Nazzareno Didiano, 44, stopped dishing out peanut butter bars and Blue Bunnies last May 12 and began pummeling a pudgy-faced Bloomfield teen during a meltdown.

High gas prices? Hardly

The recent hikes in gas prices have some all in a tizzy but when you compare our prices to those worldwide we are very fortunate.

The main factor in price disparities between countries is government policy, according to AirInc, a company that tracks the cost of living in various places around the world.
