Canadian border guards run at first signs of danger
You have to wonder how Canadians must feel knowing that their border guards have the right and do walk off the job protecting the countries borders at any sign of danger. It gives the distinct impression that a border guard in Canada is nothing more then a toll booth operator.
About 60 guards with the Canada Border Services Agency left their posts at four crossings in the Lower Mainland because of what they claimed to be a threat to their personal security. In all fairness though Canada evidently does not allow their border guards to carry weapons so basically Canada depends on the U.S. to protect them. It's probably for the best since it looks like it takes 10 years to train Canadians how to safely use firearms. An official with the Canada Border Services Agency said the action by the guards occurred after Homeland Security officials in the U.S. told the RCMP that a suspected killer from California, who should be considered armed and dangerous, might try to cross the Canadian border.
The Conservative government has promised a 10-year program to arm the guards.
