Canada turns right
In an unsurprising outcome the Liberal party in Canada was voted out and the Conservative party was voted in.
Canada has swung to the right in a general election after 12 years of Liberal rule increasingly overshadowed by allegations of corruption. But the article seriously understates the problem.
The confidence vote that forced the election was triggered by a public inquiry that found Liberal politicians in Quebec had taken kickbacks in return for government contracts. These kickbacks had become widespread and almost an institutional subsidization of the liberal party. Once discovered they made matters even worse by outright trying to purchase votes to remain in power by offering opposition members individual political favors to flip sides.
